Inauguration of Another State of Art, 18,000 Capacity New Eket Stadium - To Create More Sporting Opportunities for the Youths and the State of Akwa Ibom
His Excellence, Udom Emmanuel the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State has confirmed the 18000 capacity New Eket Sports Stadium will be inaugurated on Friday September 30, 2022 .
Governor Emmanuel dropped this confirmation plus reason why his administration decided to construct the sports edifice on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon .
Mr Udom Emmanuel alongside the CAF President at the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup Final.
He wrote ” I love sports and I know that sports development can give our teeming youthful population an opportunity to achieve their dreams and stay healthy.
"It will also create more sporting opportunity for the state, we are looking at attracting more international sport events to our state. And as a state we will gain a lot from the multipler effects... such international sport events will rub off on Aviation, transportation, hotel and tourism in the state."
” That is why I built this 18,000 capacity Stadium in Eket and it is ready for inauguration on Friday with a friendly between Akwa United and Katsina United. ”
Since the inauguration of his administration in 2015 , Akwa Ibom State has achieved great success in sports .
Two Federation Cup titles plus a first ever NPFL title for Akwa United FC , promotion of Dakkada FC to the NPFL , Promotion of Ibom Youths FC to the National League plus individual successes in other sports are reasons why Mr Emmanuel concluded his message with a declaration that ” Akwa Ibom is unarguably the home of sports in Nigeria. ”
The stadium Inauguration , our correspondence understands is part of events to mark the 35th anniversary of the state which is also home to the 35000 capacity Nest of Champions .
The Eket Sports Stadium will be inaugurated by 3pm on Friday September 30 before Akwa United FC will take on Katsina United FC in the first ever match at the newly constructed edifice by 4pm
