Super Eagles of Nigeria Camp Starts in UAE

The Super Eagles camp starts in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed to hold in Cote d’Ivoire January 2024

The Super Eagles camp was originally slated to start on Wednesday December 27, but it was no longer feasible as at the time of writing this post. The new date will be Tuesday January 2nd, 2024.

The invited players are expected to start arriving camp on January 1st, but that means the team's head coach will have to trim down 42 invited players to 25 players, even before they kick the ball in camp. Since, the deadline to submit final team list will be Wednesday January 3rd.

The coach will rely on his past experience with the players and perhaps, players current performances in their club. This situation put newly invited players at risk of not being selected on merit.

We thought, the national team camping should have lasted for at least three weeks, so the coaching crew are given better opportunity to select players that are in best current form and to start the process of building a formidable team.

It wasn't possible to get clubs in Europe to release their players before new year. Since some of the players may be out for three weeks, their clubs insisted to keep them till the last weekend's game. December 29th to 30th

The biennial African football tournament will kick off on January 13, 2024, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, with the final set for 11 February 2024.

The Eagles are in Group A alongside hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
