Victor Osimhen Vs Paul Onuachu - Who Should Lead the Super Eagles Attack at This Time?

After Gernot Rohr,  head coach of Nigeria national team, tried out several players in the striking role, it became obvious to all that the two players presently competing for the first choice striker is between Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu. Players like Cyril Dresser, Henry Onyekuru Stephen Odey may remain at the fringes for the time being.

It has always been Kelechi Iheanacho playing in a more glamorous Premier League and his utility options to play both as a striker and support-striker that gives him an edge for a more regular call up. So, it is either Iheanacho and Osimhen or Iheanacho and Onuachu in the first team line up.

Rohr may have preferred Victor Osimhen's style of play over Paul Onuachu, who prefer to be served with long passes, because of his height and gait.

Onuachu was only invited for the international friendlies as a replacement for Osimhen, when the later was quarantined with fellow Napoli teammates over COVID issues. And Onuachu didn't cease the chance of those fixtures to prove his place as first choice striker, but only received criticisms from a wide range of Nigerian fans.

Again, luck has smiled on Onuachu the second time as Rohr has extended invitation to him again as a replacement for injured Moses Simon.

Onuachu may not have been in the best flow with Rohr's pattern of play, but he is no doubt a more consistent goal scorer following his stats for the past four years or so, averaging 15 goals per season.

Osimhen may have scored 13 goals in French Ligue 1 and 18 goals in all competitions in 2019/20 season, which attracted the €81miliion record transfer to Napoli, but he is yet to replicate such ruthlessness in the Serial A. We saw him suffer such goal drought in Bundesliga, playing for Wolfbourg.

It may be obvious, following all the media hypes Osimhen enjoyed during the transfer to Napoli, that fans would want to see him replicate such incredible fit at the national team.

Current stats may prove something different. While Osimhen has only been able to Score 1 goal and 1 Assist in 5 games for Napoli, the KRC Genk striker leads the goals chart in Belgium with 9 goals from 10 league games. And that cannot just be ignored. Onuachu may be in the best form and the best frame of mind to lead the eagles attack at a time like this or what do you think?
