Kelechi Iheanacho Isn't As Good As Etebo Oghenekaro Neither Odion Ighalo Better than Sadiq Umar… Nigerian Olympic Men Football Team
Perhaps, Nigerian Olympic men football team would have had a better
bench if Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Isaac Success, Odion Ighalo, Kenneth
Omeruo were available for selection. But most of these rising star preferred to
go pre-season with their clubs in Europe.
Of course, Iheanacho doesn't need the Olympics to put him over in
his career as much as Etebo Ogenekaro would... It is also an issue of
patriotism as well as NFF mediocrity and negligence of duty... not to obtain
the release of these players from their clubs.
But looking at the boys who will play a major part at games... We
believe Samson Siasia the head coach of the team select the best players
Nigeria has today. If we compare positions of who really will make the first
eleven even with thr rising stars available.
With a player like Ogenekaro, Manchester city star Iheanacho may
find himself more on the bench...or perhaps drafted to other position upfront.
Azubuike Okechukwu is more
technically mature in the game than the Arsenal star Alex Iwobi and may have
confined the skills maestro more on the bench in most of the games.
Although, these players are highly celebrated in the Premier
league. Player like Watford striker Odion Ighalo is not better than Sadiq Umar
who recently made the FC Roma first team. Perhaps, the Olympics will exposure
his tremendous striking skills to the world.
Many Nigerian fans may feel that Siasia didn't have the luxury of
selecting an Ideal dream team... even Siasia himself may feel so, but with the
boys in that squad you should watch out for another fabulous performance at the
Olympics.
My own submission is this... the rising stars would have caused
Siasia more headaches during the selection and perhaps, more pressure from high
places to choose players against his real wish. You can imagine a team that has
star striker Taiwo Awoniyi as an Alternate
player... Just Watch Out!
